Mina Girgis started The Nile Project in 2011 to inspire communities living along the Nile to collectively work towards a more sustainable future for the region. The Nile runs through 11 countries with a combined population of over 435 million, however state boundaries have left many with no ability to connect with each other.
Mina Girgis works to connect this diaspora through an interdisciplinary and multi-lingual program to build awareness about the river’s unique environmental and economic role in the greater region. The Nile Project brings together musicians from each of the Nile basin’s 11 countries to expose audiences to the diversity of cultures in the region, break down barriers of understanding, and promote an inclusive process to ensure the river’s long term sustainability.
