Meitamei Olol-Dapash is the founder and Executive Director of the Maasai Environmental Resource Coalition (MERC) a registered community-based organization in Kenya. MERC is a network of grassroots organizations and activists promoting the rights of the Maasai community and the environment.
He is also a co-director of the Maasai Community Partnership Project (MCPP), which is a collaboration between the MERC and the Prescott College in Arizona, a liberal arts college dedicated to social and environmental justice. The MCPP was created in 2004 to support the Maasai community in its efforts to sustain its culture, achieve education, and become politically and economically empowered.
Among other appointments, Meitamei has been a member of the United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Peoples (1999-2002), a founding member of the Species Survival Network and the Maasai Girls Education Fund (1999-present), a board member for the Masai Mara Moniko Conservancy, a founding member and current Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Association of Maasais Abroad; and a member of the East African wildlife society (1997-2006).
