Surita Sandosham, Synergos Vice President of Programs, spoke at Dasra Philanthropy Week, India’s leading gathering on creating greater impact through philanthropy, in March in Mumbai. Dasra, a Synergos partner, is a strategic philanthropy organization based in India that works with philanthropists and social entrepreneurs to create large-scale social change. The Dasra Philanthropy Week brings together prominent philanthropists, social entrepreneurs, foundation heads and government officials to collaborate discuss and discover path-breaking strategies to address the challenges faced by India and create greater impact.
Surita spoke during the conference’s day that focused on corporate social responsibility (CSR) during which corporations in India learned and shared information about CSR strategies for empowering adolescent girls.
Since its inception in 2010, Dasra Philanthropy Week has mobilized 264 crore rupees (about $42 million) in funding to the social sector and has successfully engaged with over 500 philanthropists, multi-lateral agencies, and corporations/corporate foundations to discuss, debate, and address urgent societal challenges.
Empowering adolescent girls was one approach used by Synergos and its partners to improve child nutrition in the state of Maharashtra through the Bavishya Alliance, a six-year multistakeholder partnership that involved corporations, civil society organizations, government, and UNICEF.
