Emanuel Garza Fishburn was the Executive Director of the Xignux Foundation (www.fundacionxignux.org) and the Corporate Social Responsibility and Communication Manager of Xignux (www.xignux.org). Through his work at Xignux, Emanuel also served as the Chairman of the Board of the SumaRSE Network (www.sumarse.org.mx), which integrates over 25 large businesses and corporate foundations in joint social investment initiatives that are currently focused on building social capital and civic capacity in the marginalized communities of greater metropolitan area of Monterrey, Mexico.

As the co-founder and a member of the board of directors for Via Education (www.viaeducation.org.), Emanuel has been involved in the design and implementation oversight of various Education for Democratic Citizenship initiatives, primarily serving the Mexican public education system in the states of Nuevo Leon and Guerrero as well as many private education institutions, business, and local communities. Via Education is a Mexican nonprofit focused on generating opportunities for sustainable social development through the design, implementation and evaluation of educational strategies. Through the use of the prize-winning methodology called Aprender a Participar Participando or “Learning to Participate Participating,”? which is co-authored by Mariali Cardenas, Armando Estrada and Emanuel, Via Education has provided thousands of under-privileged children, youth and adults with the opportunity to learn and practice how to successfully participate and engage with other members of their own communities in solving their shared needs.
Emanuel is also a co-founder and a secretary of the board of the Comunidar Foundation (www.comunidar.org), the first community foundation serving the greater metropolitan area of Monterrey, Mexico. He also serves as a member of the board of directors of Outreach International (www.outreach-international.org), a U.S.-based humanitarian organization focused on helping people overcome the effects of poverty in their lives and communities.
Emanuel obtained a law degree at the Tecnológico de Monterrey and a master of education degree on International Education Policy at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, and has received scholarships from the Japan/Inter-American Development Bank Graduate Scholarship Program, the Fundación México en Harvard, the Organization of American States and Harvard University.
