Dr. Asher Hasan is the Founder and CEO of Naya Jeevan (“new life") a social enterprise dedicated to providing low-income families with access to quality healthcare and financial inclusion. As the emerging world’s first “HMO/health plan for the marginalized,”? Naya Jeevan (www.njfk.org) provides access to affordable healthcare to a subset of the missing middle population that is neither catered to by insurance underwriters nor by microfinance institutions. The organization is currently focused only on Pakistan, but has plans to replicate this model in India, Mexico, and other emerging markets in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Asher’s work primarily focuses on digital health & wellbeing for workers in corporate. value chains (e.g. textile factory workers, smallholder farmers, distributors, SME retailers, informal domestic workers, etc), protection of income-generating assets (health, life, livestock insurance); leadership development, gender-inclusion, impact investing, compassionate capitalism.

Fluent in English, Urdu, and Hindi, Dr. Hasan’s education includes a medical degree and a master’s in business administration. After training as a surgeon, Dr. Hasan left behind a successful career in clinical research and pharmaceuticals in the United States with the intention of combining his belief that all human beings have intrinsic value with his relentless desire to dismantle the de facto socioeconomic apartheid that is prevalent in many parts of the world. He successfully launched Naya Jeevan in 2009, and since then has received many distinction and honors, including the WEF/Schwab Foundation Asian Social Entrepreneur of the Year.
