We are the sum of different peoples and cultures, apparent in our language, ideas, ways of communicating, behaviors, cultural patterns, and our personal, social and family memories. How do theses cultural aspects manifest in our social and environmental challenges? And how can reflecting on the theme of ancestry illuminate our philanthropic practice? Through Daniel Mundurku's experience, we will examine these question in depth, seeking greater self-understanding in order to guide our social actions.


Daniel Munduruku
Daniel Mundukuru is extremely engaged in the Brazilian indigenous movement. He studied Philosophy, History and Psychology at the Centro Universitário Salesiano de São Paulo (UNISAL) and received his master's and doctorate in Education from the University of São Paulo and a postdoctoral degree in Linguistics from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). He is the CEO of Instituto Uk'a - Casa dos Saberes Ancestralis, a non-proft publishing company that enables publications of experienced indigenous authors, as well also non-indigenous authors who write about topics that contribute to society's understanding indigenous peoples struggles, their values, knowledge and culture. Daniel has authored 54 publications, most of which are classified as children's literature. He has received several awards in Brazil and abroad: Jabuti Award, from the Brazilian Academy of Letters, Érico Vanucci Mendes Award (CNPq), Tolerance (UNESCO). Many of his books received the Highly Recommendable seal by the Fundação Nacional do Livro Infantil e Juvenil - FNLIJ. In the 2020 elections he was a candidate for mayor in the city of Lorena and in 2022 he ran for congress representing the state of São Paulo.

7:15pm Panel: Answering the calling and finding the voices of next and now generation of philanthropists

Synergos will launch a publication detailing their experiences in philanthropy with the Next and Now Generation in Brazil, following four years of close work in this field and through their Bridging Leadership for Social Investment Program. The publication will cover lessons learned, methodologies, and future perspectives for working with the next generation in charge of changing the world.

To mark this moment, we will have a conversation about the role of the new and current generation in facing society's most urgent challenges, joined by our partners: Movimento Bem Maior, and UNICEF; and supporters: Amazon Investor Coaltion, Collective Action for the Amazon, Generation Pledge, and Nexus.

9:00am Group discussion: Philanthropy, family and legacy - a conversation across generations

Members from Brazil and other Latin American countries will share a special event focused on intergenerational dialogue within philanthropy. This opportunity will allow attendees to update themselves even further on what is occuring in the filed of philanthropy, deepen their connections with other social investors, and share challenges and lessons learned. As Latin Americans facing similar struggles, peer exchange in our region is critical and there is certainly much to be shared.
