Roberto Calingo

Synergos Senior Fellow & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AT PEACE AND EQUITY FOUNDATION

Roberto Calingo is the Executive Director of the Peace and Equity Foundation working in Manila in the Philippines.  They focus on supporting social enterprises, promote the use of renewable energy and institution building among agricultural farmers and fishers, as well as, poor urban communities

Mr. Calingo has been in the field of social development and corporate social responsibility since 1982. Since 2002, he worked with Mirant Philippines/ TeaM Energy, where he managed Project BEACON (a US $ 30 million program) that provided electricity to at least 1,500 rural villages around the Philippines. Mr. Calingo has been instrumental in integrating social and environmental dimensions in the overall sustainability strategy of Mirant Corporation.

Previously, Mr. Calingo served as the executive director of Philippine Business for Social Progress. He has several years of experience in development management, conceptualizing and implementing programs to promote improvement of the quality of life of poor communities. He is proficient in the areas of grants management, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, and resource mobilization.

Mr. Calingo has served in various capacities on the boards of social organizations, such as the League of Corporate Foundations, the Philippine Council for NGO Certification, the Asia Pacific Philanthropy Consortium, the United Nations Development Program-Global Environment Fund’s Small Grants Program, The Children’s Hour, and the TeaM Center for Bridging Societal Divides at the Asian Institute of Management. He is actively involved in advocating for corporate social responsibility (CSR) through the League of Corporate Foundation’s annual CSR Expo and Conferences.

Mr. Calingo holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the Ateneo de Manila University and a Master’s degree in development management from the Asian Institute of Management. He has also completed studies in developing income generating enterprise at the Cranfield School of Management in the U.K., as well as a business consulting course at the University of the Philippines.
