Research Intern, Women and Girls Resource Group

The Synergos Institute is an independent nonprofit organization working to reduce poverty and promote equity and social justice for poor and marginalized communities around the world.

Synergos has long believed that addressing difficult issues requires the development of effective, sustainable and locally rooted solutions.  Our programs are designed to strengthen the capacity of local civil society organizations in the developing world; support leading philanthropists and social activists from around the world to deepen the impact of their work; and build effective, inclusive partnerships across social, economic and institutional divides Synergos is headquartered in New York and has staff on the U.S. - Mexican border, in Brazil, Southern Africa, Namibia and India.

Synergos seeks an intern to provide to provide assistance to the Women and Girls Resource Group -- a team within Synergos tasked to monitor trends, initiatives and developments on poverty and inequity issues related to women and girls.

Interns are welcome to participate broadly in Synergos activities, including all-staff meetings, staff presentations and meetings with external guests.

Duties

  • Conduct research on specific development topics related to women and girls
  • Conduct due diligence on existing initiatives, activities and stakeholders affiliated with Synergos
  • Identify and profile key stakeholders and change-makers
  • Prepare profiles on relevant activities, events, initiatives and programs
  • Work with resource group members to design specific outputs
  • Assist in designing proposals for Synergos initiatives

Qualifications

  • Ongoing or completed graduate study in economics, international development or public policy
  • Knowledge of and experience in international development issues, particularly gender and development
  • Strong research skills and ability to understand and synthesize academic literature as well as other broadly available sources
  • Committed to Synergos' mission and values
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills
  • Experienced in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access

Commitment

15-20 hours per week.
Please note that there is no stipend for this internship.
