In Memoriam: Inviolatta Moyo, Synergos Senior Fellow

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Inviolatta Mpuli Moyo, founder and executive director of the Uluntu Foundation and a long-time colleague and friend of Synergos, passed away on March 20, 2016.

Inviolatta was a leader in sustainable community development and created the Uluntu Foundation, a community foundation in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, to help build self-reliant communities free from poverty and hunger. A Synergos Senior Fellow, she was generous with ideas and experience in her own community and internationally.

Prior to creating Uluntu, she served as Executive Director of the Community Foundation for the Western Region of Zimbabwe, the second community foundation in sub-Saharan Africa, which works to improve the quality of life for people in the country’s three southern and western provinces.

Inviolatta had over 14 years’ experience in administration and teaching for the Ministry of Education in Zimbabwe and spent four years guiding and implementing community development projects with the Organisation of Rural Associations for Progress (ORAP).

She was a member of the Preparatory Committee for the UN World Social Summit, Denmark, 1995 and the Preparatory Committee for the Women’s World Conference, 1994. Inviolatta was also an Inaugural Fellow of the Emerging Leaders Programme at the Centre for Leadership for Public Values at the University of Cape Town, South Africa and Duke University in the United States.

Inviolatta earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in international studies from the School of International Training, Vermont, USA; a diploma in grassroots development and NGO management from ORAP Zenzele College, Zimbabwe; and a Certificate in education from the University of Zimbabwe.

We will greatly miss her.
