Mónica Tapia joins Synergos as Director for Mexico
Synergos is pleased to announce the appointment of Mónica Tapia as Synergos’ Director, Mexico. She will lead our efforts there to help solve complex problems of poverty through collaboration among business, government, civil society, and marginalized communities.
Mónica’s focus as Synergos’ Director, Mexico will be growing our networks, and working with network members and others actors - including business, government, civil society and academia - to identify and implement innovations that result in sustainable systems change.
Mónica is founder of Alternativas y Capacidades, a Mexican organization which strengthens other civil society organizations (CSOs), grantmakers and citizen initiatives for social policy and development. She served as its executive director and is also a Synergos Senior Fellow. In addition to leading Alternativas y Capacidades, Mónica was a founding board member of the Citizen Coalition for Education Reform and a founding member of the Mexican Network for Just and Sustainable Cities.
She has coauthored publications on capacity building, advocacy, legal incorporation, the legal and fiscal framework for CSOs, transparency on the allocation of public resources to CSOs, corporate philanthropy and social responsibility, and community philanthropy.
Mónica graduated from El Colegio de México and pursued postgraduate studies in Social Policy and Planning in Developing Countries at the London School of Economics and in Latin American Studies at the University of Oxford. She also worked for the federal government, for the president’s office for Regional Development Planning and as an advisor for education reforms and the Chiapas’ conflict negotiation.
